Best time to visit India

Like the diverse geography of India, weather in India is also dynamic, wavering not only with seasons but also from one place to another. The three most prominent seasons here are winters, summers and monsoons. Also depending on the differing temperature zones and amount of rainfall received the Indian Meteorological department has divided the country in seven climate zones. By the far the best season to visit India is between the months of October to March when weather in most places remains pleasant. Between the months of March-May the climate remains intolerably hot with mercury rising to as high as 100 degrees F/40 degrees C and strong winds storms and thunderstorms. Mountains, hill stations and wild life reserves like Nainital, Mussorie, Manali, Shimla, Dalhousie, Darjeeling, in north and north east are the best destinations to visit during this season. During June to October most of the subcontinent is affected by heavy rains. Monsoon arrives in India in two stages the main southwest monsoon hits the west coast and plains of central and north India remains from June to September. The north east monsoon though intense stays for a shorter duration and affects the South Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is difficult to travel anywhere in India during rains. The isolated but mystic Ladakh in North could be visited during the monsoon. By October with dampening of rains the skies remains clear and sunny and climate is refreshing and delightful. It is just the right time to hit the magnificent and splendid beaches of Goa and South or to explore the desert land of Rajasthan.
